Jay Brody's story is a great one; it's that life experience that has made him the unmatched storyteller he is today. Unlike Carly, who went to broadcasting school right out of high school, Jay spent time in politics, real estate, loss prevention, and film. He was a whole private investigator before deciding he should settle down and work for his brother's construction company. He hated it. He was miserable. The only joy he found was listening to the radio on his way in to work each day. It was the Dean Blundell Show on 102.1 The Edge. He wanted to do it; he thought he could do it, but he didn't know how to do it. A trip to Italy and a conversation with his old Nonna gave him the confidence to follow his heart and to take a hard left as age 30 was quickly approaching. Todd Shapiro was let go from the Dean Blundell show and started his own show on Sirius XM. Jay reached out and asked Todd if he could intern. Jay assumed he would be getting coffee, when one day shortly after he started he was invited on air. He was funny—really funny. This led to him to cohosting and producing a few different shows on Sirius, but most importantly, this is when he met his best friend Roddy Colmer. Roddy was a musician in Toronto who had a quick wit—so quick he would write and perform songs on the spot, based on whatever the topic of conversation was

Roddy and Jay went on to start a podcast, which eventually became a show on Sirius called "The Dumb Show." The Dumb Show released two #1 comedy albums, full of parody songs that both Roddy and Jay wrote and performed. Hits include "Stop It, Tom Connors," "The Inconvenience Store," and "The Million Dollar Question." This parody duo was picked up by the Howard Stern Show and continues to be the Stern show's "parody guys" today.

The year was 2017, and Jay still dreamed of 102.1 The Edge. Growing up in Toronto, this was his white whale. He applied for the weekend gig at the also Corus-owned Y108 in Hamilton; it wasn't long before he was promoted to mornings.

In 2020, the "Morning Grind" was moved from Hamilton to the Edge in Toronto; he made it, and in record time. He was the quarterback, prepping and driving the show, but he was also the funniest host most people have ever heard. To say Jay made a big impact on the listeners is an understatement. He made people laugh, and he made people cry. One minute he's shaving all the hair on his body because he lost a bet; the next minute he's standing up for nurses or helping an addict by raising money for rehab. Jay can transition from a funny story about Viagra to talking about years ago when he was addicted to opioids after being hit by a car. There are people who know a little bit about a lot; Jay knows a lot about a lot. Never coming off as a know it all, he shares things that you've never heard before and can't wait to share with your friends. Jay, like Carly, is very open, sharing hilarious conversations he secretly recorded with his mother and talking about his struggles with his weight and eating addiction. He can talk about things that you think can't be funny, but somehow the conversation always ends with an optimistic laugh.

So now it’s 2022, and an offer comes around that can’t be refused. He’s leaving home to head to Vancouver. On paper, the deal was great, and working with Carly was intriguing. She had been on The Edge much longer and was the clear fan favorite. She was driven by the same thing he was: making people’s day. Making people feel good, the way radio made him feel good when he didn’t. She was also an amazing storyteller and had a remarkably quick wit. A person who could both quarterback and receive the ball. Together, they had an endless book of plays. Oh, did we mention Roddy was on contract? Always a part of the show from afar, he pumped out daily parody tunes based on the news of the day. Together, the team made parody songs cool again; it turns out the secret is having a song about it before any other show is even ready to talk about it.

Jay believes that passion and hard work should pay off. He wants to join a station or company where the show can be involved in and help the community, where even the mayor can grab the third mic. At the same time, he knows that he and Carly can cater to and expand into multiple markets. If this sounds like you, contact Jay via email at jayroti@hotmail.com.
